What to Tell Your Doctor

It goes without saying that before you start any fitness plan, you should consult your family doctor.  He/she probably knows more about this than they've been willing to tell you because the truth is difficult for many people to accept.  The media is selling you hydrogenated oils as health food, but almost every doctor on earth knows better.

Whether they're low fat, low carb, or low calorie advocates, every last one of them understands that real food is better for you than processed "phood".  They also all know that fresh fruits and vegetables are the basis of a healthy diet.  They see and treat people with grain allergies and intolerances every day.

Having a few close friends and relatives who are doctors or in the health care field gives you a special insight into what's really good for people and what's not.  Quite often, they spend their careers telling people the truth, who just don't listen.  They watch people become ill and sometimes die from misinformation, and much of their work is picking up the pieces.

So when you go to see your doctor, you should tell him/her that you are starting a lifestyle change that involves eating natural foods.  Explain what you plan to do and ask them if they know of a nutritionist or dietician who is familiar with the works of Weston A. Price.

Unfortunately, these are somewhat few and far between, depending where in the world you are.  So you may be largely on your own as far as information gathering.

Still, you will need to be weighed, and have some tests done.  Among them, you should get your TSH and T4 that will find out how well your thyroid is functioning.  Of extreme importance though is the liver function test.  You may also want to get an abdominal ultrasound if possible.  Many people have a fatty liver because of hydrogenated oils, and don't know it.  Of course, you also want to get your cholesterol and triglycerides looked into.

Along the way, return to your doctor to get the same tests and look into your progress.  This will contribute to much needed data on how well a natural diet can improve someone's health.
