Sufganiyot are traditional donuts that are made during the Chanukah season. Every bakery in Israel fries them from November until January usually, but unfortunately they're usually fried in some hydrogenated oil. Most of the time it's soy oil, which has a terrible taste and mouth feel, but it's cheap so that's what they use. I couldn't find a single bakery in town that used a non hydrogenated oil, so I started making my own last year. White flour still isn't the best thing for you, but I consider this a lesser evil.
