- 1/4 cup melted and cooled butter or palm kernel oil
- 1/2 teaspoon gray salt (ground as well as possible)
- the insides of one vanilla bean steeped in 2 tablespoons hot water
- a scant pinch of fenugreek
- a scant pinch of clove
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice (also called English pepper)
- 1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg
